Heating Consultancy for Home Renovations
If you’re renovating your home, we can help you decide how to improve the energy performance of your home as well as renewing and updating your heating systems. In which case we would probably be looking at exactly how you could insulate your property more effectively, or calculating what would be the effect upgrading your glazing, in conjunction with updating your old gas boiler to a modern energy efficient one. Whatever the situation, we’d help provide advice on things such as what size of boiler you’d need, as well as the types, sizes and positioning of any radiators or towel rails. We’d also help give practical advice on how best to add other elements such as underfloor heating to the bathrooms, or installing wood burning stoves.
Heating Consultancy for New Build Homes
If you’re planning a new build we can also get involved. We regularly work with architects and their clients on new builds, and custom builds, and help self-builders decide on the level of energy performance they want for their new home. Here it is a case of modelling the effect different modes of construction, levels of insulation or glazing types can have on the U values of the building envelope, and then matching these different options to the heating system requirements the building would have with each construction specification. Over the years, we’ve worked with self-builders who have just wanted to meet building regulations, to those who want an Eco-home, right up to Passivhaus levels.
Heating Consultancy for Homes without Mains Gas
Are you are looking to replace an old oil boiler with a more energy efficient system, or planning to build a new home in an area without mains gas? We often work on renovations and new build heating projects where the client does not have a gas mains supply and they want us to help assess their needs and give advice on the most appropriate renewable energy solutions. Over the years we’ve helped dozens of clients and have advised on a variety of renewable systems such as Air Source Heat Pumps, Ground Source Heat Pumps, Solar Hot Water and Biomass wood-fueled heating systems.
Ventilation Consultancy and Managing Solar Gain
Although we mainly work as an independent domestic heating consultant, we’ve also worked on projects where much of the work focuses on managing solar gain. In these cases, we help advise on the specification of the glazing units, as well as specifying other elements such as a suitable mechanical ventilation system to prevent buildings overheating. Helping make sure a building is comfortable in summer, as well as the colder months is an important part of the advice we give. Our advice in this area is particularly relevant to homes with large amounts of glazing, particularly if it has a southern aspect.
