Charlie Laing completes the London Marathon

The Worshipful Company of Paviors

On 6th March 2025 Charlie was installed as Master of the Worshipful Company of Paviors. Then on 27th April 2025 Charlie Laing completes the London Marathon as the fastest Master of a Livery Company, breaking a new record.

The Worshipful Company of Paviors is one of the historic livery companies of the City of London, with records dating back to 1276. Livery Companies were the original trade guilds of the City. The Worshipful Company of Paviors are a community of like-minded professionals and senior construction leaders from construction companies, aggregate industries, building trades and supporting professions, committed to industry excellence, charity and supporting the City and the Livery movement.

There are 110 livery companies. These comprise of London’s ancient and modern trade associations and guilds, most of which are styled the ‘Worshipful Company of’ their respective craft, trade or profession. They play a significant part in the life of the City of London. Including charitable giving and fellowship. Liverymen retain voting rights for the senior civic offices of Lord Mayor and Sheriffs.

Originally responsible for the paving and maintenance of London’s streets, the company has evolved into a modern organisation dedicated to promoting excellence in the construction industry.

As the Paviors used to look after the streets of the City of London, what better event for Charlie to celebrate this than by pounding the streets for three incredible causes that are close to his heart. And the best part…. If he reaches his goal of £25,000, all donations will be matched!

Charlie is raising money for these incredible charities:

London Construction Academy

Helping young people who are out of work and education gain the skills they need for a career in construction.

Construction Youth Trust

Supporting young people, particularly those who face significant social or economic barriers. They aim to build better futures by giving them hands on experience in construction.

Sand Dams Worldwide

Charlie recently visited a sand dam project with his family. They saw first hand the life changing impact of providing year-round access to clean water for local communities. All funds raised will help to build a new sand dam in South Omo in Ethiopia, one of the hottest and driest areas on earth.

Charlie’s Personal Challenge

The last (and only) time he ran a marathon was in 2003. Over 20 years later he laced up his trainers again to take on this epic event.

With your support not only is he determined to cross the finish line and hit his fundraising goal. Along with that he also aims to become the fastest Master of a City of London Livery Company to run the marathon in office!

All the 4’s – 4hours and 44 minutes!

On a very hot Sunday, Charlie successfully completed the 2025 TCS London Marathon. He finished the 26.2-mile course in 4 hours and 44 minutes. Through his dedicated efforts and the support of donors, Charlie has achieved his fundraising target for his chosen cause via Enthuse. Enthuse are the official fundraising platform for the event.
