CLPM often act as Self Build Project Advisors for clients who require ongoing but adhoc advice and support for their construction projects.
We have just been appointed by a couple near Chepstow, on the border of Wales and Gloucestershire, to help them with their new build project.
The plot is in a small community next to the River Servern. After a difficult and lengthy process, our clients have just gained planning permission to build a new detached eco-home. The house will be built using structurally insulated panels (SIPs) and will be highly energy efficient. There will be a high degree of air-tightness, as well as triple glazing. The building is highly glazed and will benefit from solar gain, but will also be heated via an air source heat pump with underfloor heating, as well as having a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery. A photovoltaic array on the south-facing roof will generate electricity. There will be an electrical vehicle charging point outside on the drive, and there will also be a rainwater harvesting system.
We initially met our clients in 2017 at an Eco Training Course at which we were presenting at the National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon. We have been appointed to carry out a design review and to build a constriction programme, and to help get them set up and ready to run the tendering process themselves. Mario, CLPM’s building project manager for Gloucesteshire, will then visit the site twice a month to help check progress and give advice as required.
