THE PROJECT
We were approached by our clients, Ware Town Council, when they received a generous donation from local employer, GlaxoSmithKline, to refurbish their local lido.
THE CHALLENGE
The Lido refurbishment project involved works to the changing room and general facilities around the pool, as well as some landscaping. Our clients were anxious to ensure that the building works went smoothly. With a limited budget, and a tight timescale, they could not afford for the project to overspend or suffer from any delays and wanted the reassurance of a building project manager overseeing and checking the works were completed correctly and to programme.
THE SOLUTION
This role involved our liaising on a regular basis with all parties throughout the pre-construction phase as well as supporting the project onsite. First we worked together with the teams from the Ware town council and GlaxoSmithKline to set up the project by drawing up a schedule of works and checking the affordability of the scheme by estimating the build costs. We then advised our clients on how to approach the build and took the works out to a competitive tender before drawing up the building contracts and appointing the contractor. Once the project started onsite we then coordinated the building works in the role of Contract Administrator, while also giving additional project management support to ensure that all parties were coordinated throughout the project. This involved checking the accuracy and quality of the building works onsite and checking the invoices submitted by the builders matched the works completed.
THE RESULT
Originally built in 1934, Ware Lido has been restored to its former glory and we hope it will continue to be a popular leisure facility for many years to come!
