Ideal Easter DIY – What’s your project?
Easter weekend is coming up again. We all love this 4 day holiday and it is a great opportunity to get some home improvement done. Here are some random ideal Easter DIY tips.
While we all need a good break there are also all those jobs around the house that never get done. Many UK householders will be looking to try their hands at DIY.
A poll by Nationwide in the run-up to Easter revealed almost half of the population was planning to do some kind of DIY over the holidays. Those jobs range from quick fixes to large-scale residential property renovation projects.
Insulation
The recent chilly weather will have prompted some thoughts about energy efficiency among the nation’s homeowners in recent weeks. However only a mere 4% were set to add insulation to their homes over Easter.
The holiday is a great time to find ways to block or fix those draughts and use some simple energy saving tricks to help keep down those heating bills.
Radiators
It is the perfect opportunity to give your radiators a health check. It is quite easy to bleed them if necessary. Bleeding is basically releasing trapped air so the water inside can move around more freely.
First you will need to turn the heating off first and wait for the radiators to cool down, so we hope the weather helps. Place a bowl under the bleed valve and insert the bleed key. Turn the key anti-clockwise until you can hear a noise, this will be the air escaping. As the water starts to come out, turn the key clockwise to tighten the valve again. It’s as easy as that.
Outside
It’s all too easy to forget the outside of your house when you’re keen to paint a hallway or retile a bathroom but those are the jobs that can create huge problems for you further down the line. Have a look at roof tiles, guttering and chimneys.
Front Door
Your front door is really important. It’s the first place you have interaction with visitors to your house and a lot of front doors just let the side down big time!
Tips to improve your front door
Make it a project. Get it off its hinges and sand down that paintwork or scrub that UPVc with a good cleaner that isn’t too abrasive. Clean the handles, letterbox and locks by washing them out with soft cloths. Give brass fittings a good polish and wipe away all the spider webs and general grime that collects in the door seals.
Replace door seals and, if you’ve changed the door colour with a lick of paint, you might want to install different handles, letterbox and lock covers.
Normally there are loads of good Easter deals in the DIY stores. Plan carefully, get the bargains and dig out your work clothes! (If the weather’s good you might even fit in a BBQ!)
