Our clients had purchased their mid-terrace home some years ago. However the arrival of their two children meant the professional couple desperately needed more space. As they loved the area, and really didn’t want to move, they started working with their Architect, Patrick Inglis of Inglis Inglis to extend their home and so create more room for their busy family. Together they set out to develop plans to refurbish and reconfigure their space while also adding an extension to their home.
With busy careers as well as a young family to take care of, our clients knew they would struggle to organise their building project without any help. They were also aware that they didn’t have much construction experience and so were nervous about how they would be able to effectively oversee the building works and protect their financial interests.
Luckily their architect suggested they get a professional to support them. He recommended they talk to CLPM, so our clients met with our Operations Director Charlie Laing who talked them through their options for support once the works started onsite.
When carrying out a large, complex building project it is very important to appoint the right build team. Their architect had already tendered the works and found a builder so the next step was for the CLPM Quantity Surveying team to agree the terms and draw up the contracts. This involved advising our client on payment details and adding suitable details such as Liquidated Damages. Our clients would be moving out for the whole period of the build, with all the cost and disruption this entails, so such details were very important. Our London project Manager, Alistair Stewart, then helped our clients set the project up (including helping them resolve issues like asbestos surveys and party walls) and continued to project manage the construction works by acting as their Contract Administrator. Throughout the construction works our Quantity Surveying team also helped the clients monitor their budget via monthly cost reporting.
As you can see our clients are very happy with their new home!
The house has retained it’s original period feel but is now a beautiful, colourful place for this family to enjoy for many years to come.
