CLPM often work with clients and their solicitors to project manage adaptative projects.

THE PROJECT
Our clients approached us on the recommendation of their architect, Jane Duncan Associates. They had plans to build a new home, which would be specially designed to cater for the complex care needs of their young daughter. The building site came with a dilapidated bungalow and our clients had gained planning permission for it be demolished and replaced with a new purpose-built adaptative home.
The new house was to be built on 2 levels above a basement level swimming pool and therapy centre. The design naturally included a significant amount of specialist equipment as well as a centrally placed lift. It was also designed to be an energy efficient home with high levels of insulation throughout as well as solar thermal hot water and a PV array to generate electricity.
THE CHALLENGE
Our clients, a busy young professional couple with 2 children, were keen to minimise any disruption to their family and protect themselves financially. They were also aware of the complex nature of the construction plans, and knew they needed a project manager to help them oversee the build and ensure the construction works went smoothly.
THE SOLUTION
When working on adaptive projects its important to find a build team who can work to a very high standard and who will collaborate well with the specialist equipment installers. We were therefore very careful to bear this in mind when drawing up the list of suitable contractors to tender for the building works. Fortunately there are plenty of excellent builders in the Chorleywood area, and by carrying out a competitive tender with a shortlist of suitable companies we were able to find a great team to work on the project at a competitive price.
We then supported the project in the role of Contract Administrator, as well as giving additional project monitoring support to ensure that all the additional contractors and installers were coordinated and managed effectively for our clients.
THE RESULT
The result is an excellent, practical property with all the equipment required for the current and future needs of our client’s daughter. However, the house is most notably a stylish, modern family home. The interior is stunning, with a simple monochrome background theme lifted with a range of different bright colours in the furnishings and accessories – showing that adaptive homes can be places in which everyone can thrive.
