Building a new home is daunting as well as exciting. You rely on your architect to translate your dream into a reality but you do need to have some basic ideas of your own to ensure that the building you end up with is really yours and reflects your choices and thoughts.
We collect photos and drawings of them and horde them for future inspiration. We’ve decided to share a few of the exterior ones we have enjoyed most recently to get you thinking about your new build or home extension.
Novel exterior features
This is a really novel way to include a plunge pool in a block of apartments although we haven’t explored the actual reality of the idea.
What we like is that the exterior of the block of apartments will be brightened and made that much more interesting by this feature.
It would also add value to the apartments themselves and be a totally unique sales proposition.
Softening Hard Edges
Many houses and commercial properties we see make use of concrete or stone stairs outside and whilst in a commercial setting they suit the purpose of the environment, in a residence they can be softened with flowers and mosses.
We actually like the idea that stone and concrete stairs can be built with flower boxes running alongside so that planting and the overall effect is stronger.
There are wonderful grasses and mosses that can be planted in the cracks and grooves of older cracked stairs for impact.
Themes from Nature
When you are thinking about a self build it’s easy to forget about the setting as price and availability cut down your options. Try to think about it differently and remember that location and setting are one of the main features of any building commercial or residential.
