Why Self Build, Extend or Renovate in Hampshire?

Hampshire is one of the largest and most prosperous counties in the UK. With a population of 1.76 million across it’s 1400 square miles Hampshire is also one of the most beautiful, with a third of it’s area either within the National Park or designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Famous for hundreds of years for it’s maritime and military connections, Hampshire is also the birthplace of some more contemporary adventurers, such as the Olympic sailor and four-time gold medal winner Ben Ainslie and astronaut Major Tim Peake.

For many residents, living in Hampshire is ideal, as it provides the best of both worlds. Easy access to the sea and the countryside, with excellent employment opportunities, as Winchester, Southampton, Portsmouth and London are all within an easy commute. The Hampshire district of Hart, which includes the town of Fleet, has recently been voted the best place to live for quality of life in the UK for the fifth time in six years so it’s therefore no surprise that house prices in Hampshire are so buoyant.

Houses in Basingstoke, Petersfield and Alton now command £2260 per m2, but this rises to £3591 in Farnborough and Aldershot, and £3910 per m2 for a home in Winchester.

With stamp duty and removal costs reducing the affordability of moving and home extensions costing a fraction of this amount to build,  most Hampshire residents have rightly worked out that it makes financial sense to stay put and build!

We don’t have any events planned in Hampshire at the moment, but you can travel up to London and meet us in person for free advice next year in the Ask an Expert section at Grand Designs Live, London Excel 1st to 9th May 2021.
