I can’t see how capping prices would work. If the energy companies can’t make profit in the UK they will simple go elsewhere – electricity prices in Germany are over 50% higher than in the UK.
But why have an energy bill? Why not insulate better ? I really don’t understand why more people don’t do this. Even when insulation was free (up to the end of last year) many people still didn’t do it. Now is the right time to insulate and keep out the winter chill as the weather is getting colder.
Look, you can save 25% of your heating bill by taking a few simple measures;
- Make sure your loft has at least 250mm (10 inches) of rockwool type insulation. Don’t squash it down with heavy stuff in the loft – you could try ‘loft insulation spacer legs’ so you have full strength flooring kept well above the insulation.
- Get those draughts excluded – brush or foam type both work well.
- Turn the thermostat down by 1 or 2 degrees. Hey, if you feel a little chilly think of the savings, put a jumper on or go for a brisk walk to warm up.
If you are planning a refurbishment I can find ways to save over half on your heating bill. There are plenty of insulation product around to speed up the process, internal and external insulations, high performance per thickness lightweight or eco-friendly in manufacture.
One thing in common; you don’t need to worry about energy prices once they have been fitted.
