If you think about the process of building a new home it doesn’t sound that difficult and the internet has certainly made things easier in terms of looking for inspiration, design tools, obtaining copies of bylaws and planning permission rules as well as ordering your materials and arranging the finance. What we do is remove the pain.
“Pain?” I hear you ask. Yes, the pain that you experience when you misinterpret a planning rule and have to tear down a wall or two or your discounted kitchen arrives in boxes ready to assemble but missing half the components to assemble? Many self build couples find their budget totally wrecked by having to call in small, professional builders or carpenters to help them out and the more sub contractors you have, the more the expenses and time delays rack up!
The feeling lately is to buy local and support local artisans which is great but all groups need managing and managing with an eye on the bottom line. Will you have the confidence to tell the builder recommended by your best friends that you don’t like the way his team are constantly having tea breaks? Do you really have the time to run around to the local tile shop and complain about the quality of the tiles they delivered two days earlier which is now holding up finishing the kitchen and bathrooms?
