CLPM deliver Self Build and Renovation Courses for homeowners and self-builders throughout the year.
Whilst helping our clients with construction cost services, project management support and energy efficiency advice is our business, we also feel it is important to support self-builders by taking part in training initiatives. Self Build and Renovation Courses at the NSBRC are designed to boost your construction knowledge and help you face the complexities of renovating or building a new home.
We have a close working relationship with the team at the National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon, and Charlie Laing, CLPM’s Operations Director, is the lead presenter and co-presenter respectively of two of their popular Self Build and Renovation Courses – the Project Management Course, and the Self Build Course.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT COURSE AT NSBRC
The course includes sequencing your build, project management options, build routes, and programme management. It also includes setting and establishing a budget, controlling expenditure, insurances and warranties and VAT reclaim. Charlie Laing will also cover topics relating to trades and materials such as sourcing and managing trades. This includes getting a price, contract options, sourcing materials and quality control. Lastly, he’ll cover site preparation and set up. This includes site management, avoiding the pitfalls, Health and Safety considerations, and completion.
The Project Management Course runs on every other month, on a Saturday. The 2018 dates are February 24th, April 14th, June 2nd, August 4th, October 13th and December 1st.
The cost is £150 per person, and includes a free subscription to Self Build and Design magazine worth £36.

SELF BUILD COURSE AT NSBRC
This is a 3 day course for people thinking of carrying out a self build project. It covers 11 topics in total and makes use of the practical exhibits available in the NSBRC centre. Charlie Laing and a number of other self build industry experts deliver this course. The aim of the course is to help equip self builders with the basic knowledge required to plan and manage a custom or self build project.
Topics include Budgeting & Finance, Finding & Evaluating Land, Design & Specification, and Building Systems & Construction Methods. Also included are Planning Permission & Permitted Development, Building Regulations, Trades, Contracts & Tendering. Lastly the course covers Project Management & Site Set Up plus Eco Legislation, Design, Planning & Management.
The Self Build Course is a 3 day course and runs from Saturday to Monday every other month. The 2018 dates are January 13-15th, March 10-12th, May 12-14th, July 21-23rd, September 15-17th, November 3-5th.
The cost is £375 per person and includes a free subscription to Self Build and Design magazine worth £36.
